This saves you from expensive repair bills. If the wind picks up suddenly, the sensor can react faster than a person and retract the awning away from harm. There are a couple of reasons you may want a wind sensor on your RV awning.įirst and foremost, a wind sensor can protect your awning from unexpected gusts of wind. Some models allow you to adjust their sensitivity as well, so the awning only retracts in especially strong winds. This RV awning auto retract prevents strong winds from tearing fabric or damaging the arms of the awning. The awning wind sensor detects movement from the wind and automatically retracts the awning if the wind gets too strong. This style of awning is more common on newer vehicles, especially higher-end ones. However, depending on the brand of your manual awning, it may be possible to convert it into an electric awning.Įlectric awnings use a motor to extend and retract at the push of a button. If you have a manual awning, it simply won’t be possible to install an awning wind sensor. The first thing to make clear is that an RV awning wind sensor will only work on an electric awning. That way, you don’t have to worry about your awning, even if you’re away from your RV. With an RV awning wind sensor, your awning will automatically retract itself if the wind picks up. Thankfully, if you have an electric awning, there is a solution: installing an RV awning wind sensor! But if a strong wind picks up, it can catch your RV awning and ruin it. Take the Shepard Hill exit north or southbound and follow the signs. It is located north of Conroe Tx right on I-45 at the Shepard Hill exit on the northbound side. They have a campground also where they come to your site and work on the unit. They talk highly about Heartland products and Heartlands customer service. I have made arrangements to bring the coach to Elkhart to get the broken trim piece and closet wall taken care of as the broken trim has been an ongoing issue since the coach was new. The awning now works better than it did when new. A new board was ordered and installed on Friday. Last week on Wednesday the service tech at the Convenience RV Shop in Willis, Tx looked at the awning and determined the problem to be a bad control board. One of which is a front piece on the RV that continuously comes loose, and the wall in the front closet coming loose. BTW - I do have an extended warranty which will also help as I have a couple of other issues to get taken care of. Status - I have contacted Convenience RV Park/Repair Park in Willis, Texas. I told here I believed the issue to be the motor was being defective. She advised i would need to get it looked at. She said it sounded as if the thermal cutoff was why it would stop. The lady I talked to told me it could be several problems from the struts being weak to the motor being defective. Solution - I contacted Dometic and told them of my issue. Wait another minute or two and then it will come in the rest of the way. After waiting a minute or two it will come in some more and stop. When we retract it the awning will come in about 3/4 of the way and then stop. Problem - Our Weather Pro awning has recently started acting goofy.
